Live from Egypt, exploring the work of refugee artisans with MADE51

Live from Egypt, WeWork and UNHCR invite you to immerse yourself into the workshop of Yadawee, a social enterprise creating traditional Egyptian handicrafts and member of MADE51 - UNHCR's brand for refugee made products.

You'll hear the stories of refugee artisans and the impact MADE51 and Yadawee has had on their lives since coming to Egypt. The artisans will also guide us through the steps on how to make face masks and show us their current production, as they responded to a rising global demand for re-usable masks in midst of the current crisis.

Nilfurat is a multi-cultural group of refugees from Syria, Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia, producing side by side with Egyptian women for the Local Social Enterprise Yadwee in Cairo. The group crafts handmade high-quality aprons and towels from Egyption cotton and other local fabrics, each item reflecting the personal stories and skills of the artisans, and have recently pivoted to face mask production.

As the world fights a pandemic which is forcing millions into confinement and social distancing, millions of refugees are facing dire living conditions without adequate food, hygiene supplies or proper shelter. Now is the time for action. Everyone can make a difference, Every Action Counts.
